5 Tips: Go on holiday as cheaply as possible
Whether you're on a budget or not, you don't want to pay too much for your holiday - why would you? That's why we're giving you five practical tips on how to go on holiday as cheaply as possible.
1. Book travel and accommodation separately
Nowadays, most people book their travel and accommodation together. But it is often cheaper to book your travel and accommodation – for example flight and hotel – separately. Of course, that takes some extra time and effort, but in the end you can save a lot of money with a bit of puzzling.
2. Don't be tempted by early booking discounts
Are you an early bird? Early bird discounts of 50 percent are tempting, but ask yourself the following. Isn't a travel organization more interested in selling the places that are still available at the last minute for a song? The answer is 'yes'. Research also shows that a last minute is much cheaper than the early bird-rate.
3. Go on holiday outside the season
If you have the opportunity, it is much cheaper to go on holiday outside the high season. For example, in September instead of July or August. With a bit of luck, the weather will still be nice and summery and you will have the entire hotel or holiday park practically to yourself. Possible disadvantage: outside the season, you may not be able to use all the facilities.
4. Look for 'alternative' accommodation and transport options
Thanks to initiatives like BlaBlaCar and Airbnb, you can now travel and stay a lot cheaper. With BlaBlaCar, you drive to your destination together with someone else and save at least 50 percent on your travel costs. And with Airbnb, you can rent a room, apartment, house or holiday home from private individuals cheaply.
5. Go on holiday together
Going on holiday together can not only be a lot of fun, but is also a lot cheaper. Many costs can be shared by two, such as the rental of your rental car or van. Did you know that travelling with a minivan, especially for a short stay and relatively short travel distance, is in many cases cheaper than other forms of transport, such as flying?
