7 reasons to rent a car or van
There are many reasons to rent a car. Some you can think of yourself. Others are less obvious. Here are seven.
1. You don't have your own car
Many people travel almost exclusively by public transport and do not have their own car. If you only need a car occasionally and do not drive much, it is quickly cheaper to rent a car than to own one.
2. You are going on holiday
For many people, a small or compact car is sufficient... Until they go on holiday. Because then suddenly the whole family plus luggage has to fit in it. Many people rent a (larger) car for the holiday period. That is cheaper than buying one if you only need it two weeks a year.
3. You are getting married
A bridal car, let's assume, is something you only need for one day in your life. It makes sense that you rent it and not buy it. Most people choose a sporty or classic bridal car.
In all classic cars of Adrem you can drive yourself! Or you can let someone who really likes that drive you.
4. You are moving
If your son or daughter is going to live on their own, you will soon need a small van. If the whole family is moving, it is best to rent a large van including a loading lift. You can drive it 'normally' with your car driving license (B).
5. Your own car is in the garage
If your own car is in the garage for maintenance or repair, you will sometimes be given a loaner car. If not, you can always rent one for the period that you are without your own.
6. Undercapacity
The business tenant may sometimes have to deal with peak pressure, which means that his own fleet is insufficient. Renting can then offer a solution. Many companies choose to lease their entire fleet anyway.
7. Family outing / Children's party
You are going out with the kids and some friends are coming along, for example for a children's party. Then the group usually does not fit in the family car. It is often cheaper to rent a passenger bus instead of going with two cars. Just think of the savings on fuel.

I fall, unfortunately, into the first category: I haven't had a car for years and although it saves a lot of money and I also think it's a good choice for the environment, it is sometimes difficult. I'm moving from Amsterdam soon, renting a moving van seems like a good idea, but I'm actually just afraid that it won't go so smoothly anymore and that I'll get myself into trouble. What do you think, is it a bad idea to also start driving a (heavy) van right away?
Greetings,
Roy
Dear Roy,
If you live in Amsterdam, I can imagine that you can get by just fine without a car. When moving, you can indeed rent a van. Up to a medium size, these vans are easy to drive without experience. You should especially pay attention to taking the bends wider than you are normally used to.
Good luck with the move!
