Zandvoort and Scheveningen are undoubtedly the most popular seaside resorts in the Netherlands. But there are several coastal towns that are worth the trip from 'far away' Limburg. We list the most beautiful alternatives to the country's largest seaside resorts for you. You can almost smell and taste the salty sea!

Cadzand Bad

Cadzand-Bad, in Zeeland Flanders, is the southernmost seaside resort in the Netherlands. At low tide you can walk to Knokke in Belgium. Not only the beach, but especially the landscape around Cadzand-Bad is a feast for the eyes. The seaside resort is therefore not just a place to get a tan or take a walk on the beach. Put on your walking shoes or grab your bike and explore the area.

Travel time from Maastricht: 2 hours 30 minutes

Egmond aan Zee

There is plenty to do on the beach of Egmond aan Zee. Egmond is of course known for its lighthouse JCJ van Speijk, one of the oldest active lighthouses in the Netherlands. The centre of Egmond is definitely worth a visit. Fancy a brisk walk on the beach? In an hour and fifteen minutes you can walk to Bergen aan Zee. Don't forget that you have to walk back too?

Travel time from Maastricht: 2 hours 45 minutes

Callantsoog

Callantsoog is one of the oldest and certainly also the most beautiful seaside resorts in the Netherlands. The sandy beach, with its fine sand, is among the cleanest in the Netherlands. The town itself should not be ignored either. Just south of Callantsoog you will find the largest natural dune lakes in Europe. In this area you can enjoy walking and cycling.

Bergen by the Sea

We already mentioned that you can walk from Egmond aan Zee to Bergen aan Zee. Of course, you can also drive straight to the picturesque Bergen. Bergen aan Zee is very popular among water sports enthusiasts, especially windsurfers. The addition 'aan Zee' is not superfluous, because a few kilometres further lies the artistic village of Bergen, which, like Bergen aan Zee, is popular with artists and has several museums and galleries.

Travel time from Maastricht: 2 hours 50 minutes

Texel

The largest Wadden Island in the Netherlands, with approximately 18 km of sandy beach, should of course not be missing from this list. Nowhere in the Netherlands does the sun shine longer. There is plenty to do, but most people go to Texel for the peace and quiet, which you will find here in abundance. The only disadvantage is that you have to take the ferry and that with a good four hours of travel it is certainly not next door. Texel is therefore better suited for a weekend than a day trip.

Travel time from Maastricht: about 4 hours (including ferry)

Rent a car

No car and still want to go to the beach? That's possible! With us are you already renting a car from 12,49 euros per day.* Do you want to go to the coast with more than five people? Then rent a passenger van for six or nine people.

* Basic rental price, excluding insurance, mileage, fuel and VAT.
