An active outdoor weekend. A romantic midweek with your partner. Or a relaxing holiday with friends. The Ardennes are perfect for all of these. The Ardennes in 10 tips.

1. Abbey of Orval

The Abbey of Orval is not only known for its spiritual life, but also for its Trappist beer: Orval, which is available in only one variant. On the label of this beer you will find a trout with a golden ring in its mouth. This is a reference to the legend about the foundation of the abbey. According to the legend, a trout found the wedding ring of the widowed Countess Mathilde of Tuscany after she had turned to God in her prayers.

2.Dinant

Dinant is a city that is full of sights. The citadel of Dinant, the Abbey of Leffe, the village of Bouvignes-sur-Meuse with its beautiful historical centre, and the Bayard rock are some of the things you must see when visiting this place.

3.Durbuy

We can make a top 10 of sights from Durbuy alone. If we have to pick one, it is the labyrinth of Barveaux, made on a large cornfield and with a total length of 10 km. Note that the labyrinth is only open in the summer months!

4. Caves of Han

Near Rochefort you will find the caves of Han, one of the largest cave complexes in Europe. The caves are known for their stalactites. Are you back above ground? The neighboring Rochefort is definitely worth a visit.

5. Houffalize

Houffalize is best known among mountain bikers and hosted a mountain bike world cup race for many years. The Liège-Bastogne-Liège cycling classic also passes through Houffalize. Houffalize was also a battleground in the Battle of the Bulge.

6. La Roche

La Roche, on the banks of the Oerthe, is best known for the castle ruins of the same name, high above the town. You will also find a war museum there, entirely dedicated to the Battle of the Bulge.

7. Malmedy

In Malmedy too, you can hardly ignore the war history. But in this larger city by Ardennes standards, you can also enjoy shopping and good food and drinks. The area is also perfect for a walk or bike ride.

8. Bastogne War Museum

The Bastogne Historical Center is the most famous and important museum about the Battle of the Bulge. In addition to the authentic materials, you will also find three different war scenes. An allied headquarters, a battle scene on the edge of the Ardennes forest and a replica of an inn. This way, as a visitor, you relive the war.

9. Plopsa Coo

In 25 attractions and various shows and events, the little ones get to know Kabouter Plop, Maya the Bee, Piet Piraat and other characters from Studio 100. If you are in Coo, then also visit the waterfalls.

10.Spa

The thermal baths, springs, the old spa house: Spa is best known as a spa. But also because of the Formula 1 race on the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. And of course because of its source (water).
