Keep your head cool in your car without air conditioning!

Most new cars have air conditioning. But older cars and entry-level models often have to do without air conditioning. How do you keep a cool head when the mercury rises above 25 or even 30 degrees?

Park in the shade

If you park in the full sun, your car will quickly turn into an oven. Find a parking spot in the shade, for example under a tree. If that doesn't work, place a sunshade with reflective foil on your windshield. This will prevent your dashboard and steering wheel from heating up. You can also place a towel over your dashboard. If it is safe, leave your windows open a few centimetres. That will quickly make a difference of a few degrees.

Open a front and rear window

There is little point in opening a window while driving to cool down. The best thing to do is to open a front window and the rear window on the other side – left front and right rear or the other way around. Then there is a nice breeze.

Sunshades

Want to protect your backseat passengers from the burning sun? Then stick sunshades with suction cups on the rear windows. If you are transporting a baby or child in the back, this is practically a must. You can also tint your rear windows with a tinted film.

Bring water

If you end up in a traffic jam or even just stop for a traffic light, beads of sweat will quickly trickle down your forehead and body. It is important, especially during longer trips, to replenish this lost fluid with water or an isotonic thirst quencher. Take a cool bag with cooling elements with you to keep your drink supply nice and cool. Also put a cold pack in here and place it on your neck for extra cooling.

Don't drive during the hottest part of the day

The sun is at its highest and the radiation is most intense between eleven to twelve and three to four in the afternoon. It is best not to get in the car at this time. For example, do you have to go shopping? Then do this preferably in the morning or evening. Do you absolutely have to go out? Then take the above advice into account!

Dear Frits, if I have a car I want one with a b arko, that is to say, all windows can be opened. But if I really need one, I will rent it from you with air conditioning. Thank you for this message, I will wait for the new news.

Wet towel and wring it out and place it on neck or head. Dry or too warm towel then repeat with cold water. This way you can get through the whole day.

Good tip Jolanda! That might cool even more than an air conditioner.
