Are you over 25? Then you might remember: the police Porsches that made the Dutch highways unsafe. Or 'safer' actually. Because that was the idea behind the introduction of the Porsche - then the 1962, later the 356 - as a police car in 911. Up until that moment, the police on the highway were actually lagging - driving - a bit behind the facts. The last Porsche that the police drove around in was a 911 (964) Carrera 2. Partly because of the high price tag, the politicians decided that the 'extravagant' police Porsche had to disappear from the highway. That happened in 1996.
The ANWB is now calling for the return of the police Porsche to the motorway, in order to carry out stricter checks on traffic violations and to radiate more authority.
What do you think? Should the police drive Porsches on the highway again? Or do you have another suggestion?
