Choosing a good driving school
You want to get your driver's license. Of course, you will first look for a driving school to follow driving lessons. We help you choose a good driving school. What should you pay attention to? And which pitfalls should you definitely not fall into?
Trial lesson
Always ask for a trial lesson at a driving school. A trial lesson is often free or there is a reduced rate. Do not feel obliged to choose the driving school in question. A trial lesson is intended to test your vehicle control and traffic insight, to estimate how many driving lessons you need and which lesson package suits you best - also in terms of budget. A fast learner needs 30 lessons or less, but the average learner quickly needs around 40 lessons. Check whether you get a permanent instructor and permanent teaching vehicle. Taking lessons with a different instructor every now and then can be beneficial.
Lessons and lesson packages
Different driving schools have very different rates. Don't get hung up on the price for one lesson. 45 or 60 euros per lesson is of course a big difference, but in the end it's all about what you spend.
Also note how long a driving lesson lasts. Some schools have a lesson that lasts 50 minutes and others 60. So the school with the lowest lesson price is not automatically the one with the lowest hourly rate.
Most driving schools offer you attractively priced all-in packages, including a certain number of lessons and 'free' theory and practical exams. Note that theory and practical exams are never free, but are simply included in the all-in price.
Several driving schools also offer you an exam guarantee. For most driving schools, this means that the driving school will pay for your second exam if you don't pass the first time. Of course, this does not mean that you will get your driver's license 100 percent.
Crash course
Many driving schools offer you the opportunity to get your driver's license within one or a few weeks, by taking very intensive lessons. At least two, but often three or four driving lessons in a row or in one day. This intensive teaching style is not suitable for everyone. Some people learn faster this way, while others benefit more from one or two individual driving lessons of one or two hours per week.
Success rate
It is good to pay attention to the pass rate of a driving school. But this percentage does not say everything. The average number of lessons needed to pass says at least as much. A pass rate of 91-95 percent for the first exam may seem nice, but says nothing about the number of lessons that the successful students have followed. Some driving schools are rather conservative in the number of driving lessons they advise. Also look at the pass rate for the re-exam.
Just got your driver's license and rented a car?
Finally, a question we often get. “I just got my driver’s license. Can I rent a car from you?” In short: yes, you can. Only for cars in the middle segment or higher, you must be 21 years old and have held a (relevant) driver’s license for at least one year.
Did you know that we employ a real driving school owner and driving instructor? Ersan van Fangio Driving School has been combining his driving school with his work at Adrem Autoverhuur Limburg for more than ten years.
