The best first date ever
I am a fan of the series After Life on Netflix.
In this series Tony tries to pick up the thread of his life again. His wife Lisa died of cancer, and has left him a few videos in which she gives him advice because otherwise nothing will come of him. Tony can only cry when he watches them.
Tony doesn't listen at all to the good advice of his deceased wife. He continues to wallow in his grief.
He tells the psychiatrist that he would rather shoot a few people and then commit suicide than continue living.
The postman (who reads Tony's mail) is given a merciless verbal beating.
His brother-in-law, who is a director at the local newspaper where Tony works, is dismissed as a boring, lifeless bungler.
His entire environment has to pay for it. But they put up with it all from Tony, because he is so sad about the loss of his wife.
In the second season (which just came out), Tony sets up his sex worker friend Roxy with his rude mailman Pat.
This makes for the most amazing first date I've ever seen.
The postman makes all sorts of wrong comments (that he's not a rapist), but sex worker Roxy likes him.
Since postman Pat is a poor slob, they split the restaurant bill and agree to go out again sometime.
Roxy has to work all night, and Pat awkwardly shakes her hand. Maybe he'll see her tomorrow morning on his morning round with the mail.
The series exposes in sharp detail how clumsy we can be, and how funny wrong reactions are. I can laugh a lot about it.
The scene of the first date made me think of the couples who come to rent a bus from us.
These are the daughter and father who are studying at Adrem, husband and wife, driver and tenant without a driver's license, brother and sister, mister and neighbor with a driver's license.
These couples never split the bill. But they can be just as different as Pat and Roxy.
One of the two provides the money (the tenant, or the person who has to move), the other is the supplier of the driver's license.
Moving is something that is better done together anyway.
If you need to move, but you don't have a driver's license, you are most welcome to rent a bus. Then find a driver.
(And if you have to move, you have a driver's license but you can't pay the deposit, you are also very welcome to rent a bus. Then you still have to find someone who wants to pay the deposit…)
That might be a nice first date, such a move with a moving van in the Echt region!
