Parking in Maastricht is a thorn in the side for many visitors to the city. Whether you visit this nice city with your own car or rent a car to drive to Maastricht, you will have to park your car somewhere. The closer you get to the city center, the higher the parking costs will be. However, parking is possible both in the city center and outside the city center. Where you can best park your car depends mainly on where you need to be. If you do not mind parking cheaply in Maastricht and then walking to the city center, you can park your car at a P+R site or a P+W site. In this article we will look at all the places where you can park in Maastricht. We will also look at the possibilities for cheap or even free parking.

Where can you park in Maastricht?

There are plenty of parking options in Maastricht. You can park well in the city centre, but also on the edge of the centre. You will find several above-ground parking spaces, but also several underground car parks. Paid parking applies especially near and in the centre in Maastricht and the closer you are to the centre, the higher the parking costs. However, there are also several P+W sites in Maastricht. These Park and Walk sites are approximately ten minutes' walk from the centre and here you can park cheaply with a maximum daily rate of €12. Well-known P&W sites are: Frontenpark, Stadspark/Kennedybrug or Bonnefanten. You can also park your car here for an unlimited period of time.

Expansion at Frontenpark

Major works were carried out on the Frontenpark from 23 September 2023 to June 2024. This P&W has now been significantly expanded. At the same time, the underground parking garage P Sphinx became possible. For the Frontenpark, this means no fewer than 600 additional parking spaces, bringing this P&W to a space for 1.300 vehicles.

The costs of paid parking in Maastricht

In short, parking in the centre of Maastricht is anything but free. What you have to pay depends on which garage or parking space you choose. The closer to the city centre you park, the higher the costs will be. In addition, parking on the street is often more expensive than parking in an underground garage. In the city centre, the prices for parking on the street in Maastricht are around €3.50 per hour. In the parking garages of Maastricht, the parking rate is between €1 and €3.50 per hour. This is more expensive than parking in Heerlen or a parking space in ValkenburgThe Vrijthof takes the crown here with a parking rate of €5 per hour.

In some parking garages you have a daily rate of €35, while others have a daily rate of €16, such as Q-Park de Griend, Q-Park de Colonel and Q-Park Plein 1992. In addition, there is limited parking for on-street parking. Depending on the location, you can only park for one to four hours. Also note that not all garages are open 24/7.

Free parking in Maastricht city centre is not possible, but you can park for free at Maastricht Noord. There are also a number of other P+R areas in Maastricht, where you can park your car cheaper. For example, think of the P+R Maastricht Central Station, where you can park your car at Maastricht station for €2.60 per hour and €16 per day. If you travel further by public transport, you can even park here for €6 per day.

P en R Maastricht Noord is however the most famous P+R of the city. Here you can park your car for free and then take a bus to the city centre. Bus line 3, 10 or 30 will take you to the city centre and back for only €2.40 per person. You can also opt for a group return ticket for three to five people for €5.95.

Parking in Maastricht with a tour bus

Do you drive a coach for your job and are you wondering where you can park your coach? Maastricht is perfectly equipped for coaches. At the Maasboulevard and Frontensingel you have a convenient pick-up and drop-off location. You are allowed to stand here for half an hour to let your passengers in and out. You are also allowed to stop at normal bus stops, but you are not allowed to stand still for longer than five minutes. At the De Geusselt stadium of the Maastricht football club MVV you can then park your coach. Here you can park for free in Maastricht with your coach.

Dear Mr. Pieper, is there also free parking near the MECC? We were once there near a small shopping center, we could park there for free, but I don't remember whether that was on the weekend or during the week. I can't find the name of that shopping center or the street (square) anymore.

Dear Astrid, thank you for your response!
There is a small shopping centre in Heugem, the Beente. You can park there for free. There are also free parking spaces in front of the primary school OBS de Spiegel.
One last option that we know of is at the car park near Heuts – these spots are for visitors to the car park.

I would like to be parked in the Madoerastraat (Nähe Fatimaplein) for free. I would like to visit the western part of the country and enjoy a Hunnenweg and Prins Mauritslaan parking meter! I will always be able to receive the additional tax assessment beforehand.

A blue bar on the curb indicates a parking zone of max. 2 hours parking. This is the case for example in the Röntgenstraat and the Elisabeth Gruyterstraat. Do you also have to pay for those 2 hours or not?

    Dear Mr. Pieper,
I have a parking space for rent at the Groene Loper in Maastricht; it is a closed parking lot that you can only reach and leave with a pass.
Do you perhaps know how I can find candidates for that parking space?

    • Mark on January 25, 2022 at 14:47 PM

Hi Walter, I am interested and can be reached at 0611210493

    • Noa on March 28, 2022 at 22:00 pm

Is this parking space still available for rent?

The shops are now closed on Sundays, so why do you still have to pay around the city centre?

    • Frits Pieper on January 1, 2021 at 13:45 PM

That's a very good question. I would think parking should be free now.

If I buy a parking day ticket tomorrow 06-01 in the St. Pieter district and I have to be at Oranjeplein in the afternoon, can I use the same day ticket?

In the outskirts of Maastricht you can park your car all day for 6,60 euros. Is there also a map of what those outskirts are?

    • Denise Nebbeling on April 21, 2022 at 21:53 am

We are in Maastricht from 24 April afternoon to 27 April or 17:1 and have our bikes with us. Frontenpark can only be reserved for 10 day, where else is a possibility and safe for max. €XNUMX per day

If you park your car in Maastricht at the signs for parking without paying, it is still about a good half hour walk to the center. There is often no other option because parking in Maastricht is quite expensive. Especially now that the new Q-Parking is ready where you can park in 3 or 4 levels, that has to be paid. I have always parked my car there but I am completely done with that now. I would rather walk half an hour to the center…

Where can I park for free near the Vrijthof with my disabled card?

  14. Parking maastricht on February 6, 2025 at 10:40 am

Rates are outdated! See https://www.parkeren-maastricht.nl/ for current rates.

  15. PW on February 22, 2025 at 09:31 am

Parking on the Vrijthof is downright scandalous, okay you are in the middle of the city but if you are less mobile you don't have much choice I think.
