How long will we continue to fill up with gasoline?
Fossil fuels – coal, oil and gas – have had their day. And with them, petrol and diesel. How long will we continue to fill up with petrol and diesel? The answer to that question is not so difficult. Or is it?
As of 2030, cars that emit CO2 may no longer be sold in the Netherlands. This is stated in the Coalition Agreement. A car lasts for about fifteen years. So around 2045, the last petrol and diesel cars will disappear from Dutch roads. Oldtimers aside.
Availability of petrol and diesel
The question is whether petrol and diesel will remain available for that long. From 2030 onwards, the share of petrol and diesel cars will steadily decline, and so will the demand for these fuels. Petrol station owners will scratch their heads en masse and start looking for a new revenue model.
The transition from petrol and diesel cars to fully electric vehicles will be gradual over the coming decades. Of all cars currently sold new, 2,9% are fully electric. That may not seem like much, but it does mean a doubling compared to a year earlier. That share will only increase towards 2030.
And us? We will also gradually modernize our fleet towards 2030 and replace old petrol and diesel cars with fully electric cars. We already have several hybrid cars in our range, which can also run entirely on electricity.
What do you think? Should Adrem quickly switch to offering electric cars, even if they are more expensive to rent? Or should we wait until the range is greater? Either way, a rent a car in the Urmond region do it at Adrem!
