When you rent a car, you have multiple car rental companies to choose from. In addition, there are dozens of brands and types of cars to choose from. Read this blog to find out how to best choose a rental car. In addition, there are other things you need to pay attention to, such as the insurance of the rental car. How are you insured when you drive a rental car? When you rent a car, you will notice that the rental price is almost always without insurance. However, you are legally obliged to take out car insurance.

Different types of rental car insurance

When you rent a car, you have different insurance options, just like with your own car. The most popular ones are listed below:

Third party insurance for rental car

Third-party insurance for a rental car is required by law in the Netherlands and all countries within the European Union. This covers damage caused by you to persons or property. The insurance only applies to other people's property and does not cover damage to your car.

Rental car comprehensive insurance

A comprehensive insurance for your rental car ensures that you are largely less liable for damage to the rental car and that damage is therefore partly reimbursed. Within comprehensive insurance, a distinction is made between limited and full comprehensive insurance. With limited comprehensive insurance, you are not only insured against third-party liability, but also against theft, damage to the car window, burglary and collisions with wild animals. Full comprehensive insurance is also called comprehensive insurance for a rental car. This is the insurance with the most extensive coverage. With comprehensive insurance, the rental car is also fully covered against damage, even if you are responsible for it yourself.

What about the deductible for rental car insurance?

When you rent a car, you have to deal with a deductible with the rental car insurance. Do you want to know more about the deductible with a rental car? Then read this blog. You pay a deductible when you sustain damage to the vehicle during the rental period of the car that cannot be recovered from another party. For example, you hit a pole while parking. Even in cases where the other party cannot be traced, you pay a deductible with insurance for damage to the rental car. Think of cases, for example, where someone has bumped into your parked car without leaving a piece of paper with details. Read this blog to learn more about what happens if damage occurs to your rental car.

When are you insured?

When you rent a car and multiple people will drive the vehicle, the car rental company needs valid identification documents and driving licenses from each driver. The rental car is only insured if the rental company has these documents. In short, if a person drives the car, but is not known to the rental company, the car is not insured. Read this blog to find out how you are covered if you cause an accident by driving without winter tires..

High deductibles at Adrem Car Rental

At Adrem Limburg we have higher deductibles. Our experience shows that renters are more cautious when the deductible for a rental car is higher. However, this deductible can be bought off to a lower amount for an additional fee. The amount of the deductible and the compensation for buying off depend on which vehicle you rent. Feel free to ask about the correct amounts when booking.

At Adrem Limburg it is also possible for multiple people to drive the car, without any additional costs. However, we do request that you provide a copy of the identification data and driver's license of each driver before the car is rented. At Adrem Limburg, all cars are WA and fully insured for all countries that belong to the coverage area of the green card. The maximum WA coverage is € 2,5 million per event. The overview of all countries is on the green card that you will find in the rental car. Are you not sure whether your destination country is on the list? Contact us!

I want to rent a van occasionally. I'm going to deliver a kitchen with it. What about liability if damage occurs during transport?

    thanks in advance

      Dear Alwie,
Thanks for your response. The items you transport with a bus are best insured by yourself. This is not covered by the rental insurance, but you can easily take out your own liability insurance.

      Dear Alwie,

If it is your own stuff, you can insure it under sole transport insurance. If not, you can take out carrier liability insurance.

    Hello
    The car was delivered today
There is a very small dent in the bottom plastic of the car door.
Maybe there was very light contact with the parking lot next to my house, but I didn't notice it.
My question is: will this affect the amount of car insurance in the future if I buy a car, or will it not affect anything?
If this has consequences, can you please explain to me more about the extent of these consequences for my car insurance in the future. By how much will the insurance increase?
