What is the difference between rental and short-term lease?

At Adrem Autoverhuur Limburg you can rent a car and lease a car (short lease). What are the differences between rent and lease? And what is interesting for whom?

What is renting?

When renting a car, the renter (you) and the lessor (us) enter into an agreement: the rental agreement (rental contract). In fact, we agree that we will make one of our cars or vans available to you for a certain period of time and that we expect something in return. To put it more simply: you may use one of our cars and pay rent for it.

During the rental period the car 'is' yours, that is to say: you have it in your possession, but it remains our property. Entering into a rental agreement creates mutual obligations. For example, we must be responsible for defects and you must behave as a good tenant. In other words, treat the rental car as if it were your own car.

Renting, in the case of a car at least, refers to a relatively short term. You usually rent a car for a day (part), week or month. Are you renting a car for longer than 30 days? Then short-term lease is more attractive.

What is short-term lease?

Shortlease, or short lease, is in fact nothing more than a rental agreement for at least 30 days. You should not confuse shortlease with financial lease, which is in fact a form of financing, where you repay (monthly) and pay interest, and eventually become the owner of the car. In our case, a lease contract is in fact 'just' a rental agreement for at least 30 days.

Who is interested in renting?

Renting is interesting for everyone who needs a means of transport every now and then or for a short period of time. Because your own car is in the garage for a while, for example, because you are looking for a reliable car to go on holiday with or because that washing machine simply does not fit in your daily car.

Who is short-term leasing interesting for?

Shortlease is in principle interesting for anyone who needs a (rental) car for 30 (consecutive) days or longer. For example, because you have to do without your own car for a longer period of time.

With shortlease you enter into a lease contract for at least 30 days. After that the contract can be terminated per day. So you are not tied to a long-term contract. Our competitive all-inclusive rates include car insurance (all-risk), road tax and maintenance and repairs.

Short lease is relatively cheap compared to rent. That means that you pay less per day than if you were to rent a car for one day or one week, for example.

Have you ever had to do without your own car for a long time? How did you get around then? With a loaner car, rental car or public transport perhaps? A rent a car in Limburg Of course you can always contact Adrem! Let us know in a comment!

How can I as a private individual drive a VW Transporter van on a short base basis for 3 months. I get the answer from short lease companies that I need a KvK. Can I do without?

Thanks for your message. Short-lease of a van is possible without KvK, but then you can only rent the van with a yellow license plate. That means paying bpm and a much higher road tax. Then a Transporter becomes very expensive as a private individual.
