Best family outings in South Limburg

There is of course a lot to do in South Limburg. But what if you have children and grandpa and grandma want to come along? What are your options? We list five for you. From cheap to somewhat expensive(er).

Hoensbroek Castle

Hoensbroek Castle has a rich history, which you can taste in the more than forty rooms. The highlight is the old, round castle tower, with the damp dungeon. Via an increasingly narrow staircase you can climb up to the attic. The castle was built in different centuries and has, in addition to a medieval, also more modern parts. A tour of Hoensbroek Castle is a real journey through time. There are also special activities for kids, such as treasure hunts. And there are various events throughout the year.

Steinerbos

Steinerbos is a recreation park and play forest in Stein. In fact, you could see it as one big forest with play equipment here and there. The kids can romp around endlessly, while you enjoy nature at the same time. There is also a rowing pond and an outdoor swimming pool. You can go to the various kiosks for a snack. The entrance fee is friendly and you can easily spend a whole (mid)day there. We bet that the kids (and grandpa and grandma) will return home tired but satisfied?

Theme park De Valkenier

Let's be honest: you don't have to come all the way from Groningen to visit Amusement Park De Valkenier. But if you live nearby or happen to be on holiday there, this family amusement park is definitely worth a visit. You don't have to leave it at the entrance fee. Attractions such as the roller coaster, moon rocket and haunted castle evoke nostalgic feelings for several generations. In recent years, the park has also been modernised considerably, making it completely up to date again!

GaiaZOO

GaiaZOO in Kerkrade is without a doubt one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe. In the four areas you will get to know animal species from all over the world. Giraffes, leopards, rhinos, gorillas, wolves and many more other animals. In the playground, JungleTour and indoor DinoDome you can romp and climb endlessly. At the restaurant Plateau van Gaia you can have a quick or extensive lunch. If you live nearby, it is best to buy an annual subscription. Because GaiaZOO is worth more than one visit!

Leisure Dome

Leisure Dome, at the Parkstad Limburg Stadium in Kerkrade, where Roda JC plays its home games, offers something for every age. In the indoor playground Darteldome, children up to 12 years old can enjoy themselves for hours. You can also go bowling, glow golf and laser gaming. Leisure Dome also houses a hugely popular Italian restaurant and an all-you-can-eat restaurant, with a traditional wok restaurant. Within a radius of 100 m there are several other eateries, including a fast food restaurant, two sandwich shops and so on. Finally, you can catch a film at Vue, a hypermodern cinema. If you can't spend a day here, we don't know what will!
