When you turn 18 and you drivers license you can finally drive everywhere yourself. Renting a car for a holiday in the Netherlands or Europe, to move or to short-lease is therefore ideal. But are you actually allowed to rent a car if you have just got your driver's license? Or if you are 18 years old? We will explain it to you in this blog!

Your driver's license when renting a car

Having your driver's license does not immediately mean that you can rent a car everywhere, most car rental companies do have a number of rules or requirements attached to this. This can of course differ per car rental company. With most of them you need a valid driver's license for about one or two years. It is important that you already have some driving experience on paper. Renting a car if you have had your driver's license for less than a year is therefore difficult with most car rental companies. Adrem Rental Limburg is it the case that if you want to rent a car, passenger bus or van, you must have held a valid driver's license for one year.

The age when renting a car

In addition to the fact that you must have had your driver's license for at least one year when renting a car, there are also requirements related to age. Most car rental companies also have a minimum age for renting a car. This minimum age can vary between 21 and 23 years. So even if you have a driver's license at 18e two years of driving experience, that does not immediately mean that you can rent a car. At Adrem Verhuur Limburg you can rent a car from the age of 21. These are not our requirements, but the requirements of the insurance company that insures our cars. We can imagine that someone who has just obtained their driver's license and has had 20 lessons, will probably drive better than someone who has had their driver's license for a longer period but does not drive often. However, the insurance company reasons differently and we adhere to these requirements. Are you older than 23 but not yet 25? Then it is also possible that you have to pay a surcharge on top of the rental price. This of course differs per car rental company and country.

Driving license abroad for less than one year

When you want to rent a car abroad, there are different requirements in every country. The rules are very different, so always pay close attention to that. In the United States, for example, you do not need a one-year driving license to rent a car. Just like in France, Germany and Spain, you can rent a car there from the age of 18e already rent a car. In Greece, however, you must be at least 23 and in Italy 21 years old with a driving license of at least one year.

Make sure that you have taken out the right insurance when renting a car, in addition to the right age. This way you can avoid unnecessary costs in the event of damage. At Adrem Verhuur Limburg you pay a fixed amount for insurance in addition to the rental price. Then you don't have to look for it yourself.
