With Adrem to the Fairytale Forest in Valkenburg
When you think of the Fairytale Forest, you might immediately think of De Efteling, but it is also the name of a family park in Valkenburg. Here too, you will encounter Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and many other fairytale characters. For 15 euros per person, you can already have a summer pass. Then you can visit the park as often as you like in the summer months of July and August.
Fairytale day out
The Fairytale Forest in Valkenburg is full of adventures. The fairytales that your grandmother read to you before bed or that you yourself are perhaps reading to your children now come to life here. Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rumpelstiltskin, to name but a few. In total, almost twenty fairytales are depicted in lively scenes.
In addition to all those fairy tales, you will also find more than a handful of attractions, such as a swing ride, water playground and merry-go-round. The newest attraction in the Fairytale Forest is the Dangerous Quarry, where little Doeps lives with his family.
Restaurants
In the Fairytale Forest you will find the restaurant Luilekkerland and a catering kiosk: 't Tussendoortje. In the restaurant you get complete menus, but also loose fries and snacks, pancakes, ice cream and healthy snack alternatives. The drinks menu is just as responsible.
Short history
The Fairytale Forest was founded in 1950 by businessman Bruno Brück. He had the park built for his four-year-old daughter Ullie, under whom the park would experience its heyday in the 80s and 90s.
The first scenes were made of plaster. Later, moving dolls were added. In the 80s, a western village with a whitewater course was added next to the fairytale section. In the 21st century, the park fell into disrepair. Attractions were poorly maintained and the park became dated. Visitor numbers decreased.
In 2012, the park came into the hands of a Rotterdam businessman. He had the western village closed, because according to him it did not fit within the fairytale theme, and renovated some fairytale scenes. With that, the park returned to its roots. After a renovation of about a year, the modernized park reopened its gates in April 2013.
Location and Region
The Fairytale Forest is located on the road from Valkenburg to Schin op Geul, at the Sibbergrubbe, one of the climbs in the Amstel Gold Race. The hill on which the park is built is called the Heunsberg, which extends from the Sibbergrubbe all the way to the Daalhemerweg. This 'mountain' is the setting for even more attractions and sights, such as the Wilhelminatoren, the ruins of Valkenburg Castle and the Daalhemergroeve.
Practical information
During the summer months of July and August, the park is open every day from 10.00:17.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX. The same applies during school holidays (in the south). Check the website for the exact opening hours. We don't want you to find yourself in front of a closed gate.
An e-ticket costs 7,50 euros per person. Children up to 3 years old can enter for free. Planning to visit more often? For just double the normal entrance fee you can get a summer pass, which allows you to visit the park as often as you like in July and August. A season pass costs 25 euros and gives you access to the park all year round.
From five persons it is possible to organize a themed children's party at some of the attractions. The park also offers various possibilities for company outings, team outings and school trips.
For 1,70 euros per hour or 7 euros per day you can park your car in the municipal car park Geulpark, about a 5-minute walk from the park.
