Moving to Terschelling?

I'm on the boat to Terschelling.

With a few hundred other tourists. A Wadden island seemed a good choice for the holiday. With all the orange areas nearby or far away abroad, we decided to stay in the Netherlands.

It is always windy on the Wadden, so any aerosols containing viruses are quickly removed.

Just not on the boat. The shipping company has decided that we all have to wear a face mask. All passengers and all staff.

It's nice to inhale your own aerosols for two hours.

Also handy for the Frisian, blonde lady in the boat restaurant. The poor woman asks everyone the same thing a few times. And then she still doesn't understand it.

When it's my turn, she asks what I want to eat. Hrmpffff, grzzpp, I say from behind my face mask. I think I'm pretty clear about asking for a hamburger.

But she starts filling my plate with fries.

Then she says: psffgrm, ezzmn. I say: yes, go ahead. Then a hamburger is actually put on my plate. Did she hear me right?

After dinner we go out on deck for some fresh air. You also have to wear a face mask there.

I'm glad I don't smoke anymore. Even here on deck you're not allowed to smoke anymore. Being outside for two hours without being allowed to smoke is torture for a smoker. I think it must be difficult too, smoking through your face mask.

But look there!

A hardened addict plucks up the courage to light up a cigarette. The villain is immediately reprimanded by 5 other passengers.

Nice, another holiday with Dutch people. We don't like rules ourselves, but everyone else has to stick to them of course.

Poor smoker.

I hear and see the seagulls around me. You are not allowed to feed them. According to signs on the boat, their digestion works very quickly. Therefore, by feeding the seagulls, you run the risk of the boat being shit on.

Maybe we should require seagulls to wear butt masks when they come near the boat.

What would Terschelling be like?

I went there as a little boy with my parents. On holiday to Terschelling.

And when I was 18. With 30 classmates we made a sailing trip on the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. I vaguely remember the places where we moored, including Terschelling. Even vaguer are the memories of the nice cafés in the harbours.

Would I be able or willing to live on such an island?

Funny, asking yourself such a question.

More people do that, if you watch the program Ik Vertrek. Going to live at your vacation address. As if your whole life becomes one big vacation.

What are your plans?

Maybe not so grand as to move to your favorite vacation spot.

Getting a bedroom from IKEA is also a plan.

Or a garden set via Marktplaats.

In all these cases I am happy to help you with a van in the Geleen region.

There are still a few available this weekend.

You can choose 1 here.
