Incredible customer service
We camp on Terschelling in a tent.
Not a luxurious, furnished tent, but a tent that you have to put up yourself.
Of course without reading the manual, my children don't either. Internet and Youtube are everywhere.
Luckily there are only 2 other tents on the field, and they are quite a distance away. No one to laugh at me. Something I really like to do on a campsite: watch others struggling to set up their newly bought tent.
Of course you do it wrong at first. Otherwise you don't learn it.
The poles are through the tunnels, now only the pins in the ground. But wait a minute. I take a few steps back, and I see that the tent looks ridiculous.
The part where you would normally be able to stand is only 1 meter 20 high.
So that long stick should have gone through that other tunnel. OK, I'll remember that for next time.
Not long after, the tent is up. It looks pretty normal, for a first time pitching.
Bring beds, sleeping bags, cooking utensils inside, unfold tables and chairs and set them up outside, and enjoy a well-deserved cold beer from the cool box.
We bought that cool box a few years ago at a Carrefour in France.
Inside the Carrefour it was wonderfully cool, but outside it was sweltering. If you walked 3 meters outside with your ice cream, it would start to melt.
In the Carrefour there was a cool box that you could connect to the 12V connection in your car.
Ideal!
Fridge in your car!
Take that thing with you!
And we still have that cooler box.
Also going to Terschelling.
There's just one problem.
Camping is of course wonderfully primitive, but we do need to be able to charge our phones, e-readers, headphones, camera, sound box and such. So when booking the campsite we ordered electricity.
But yes, that current is not suitable for a 12V connection of our cool box.
Where could I get an inverter?
A DIY store is quickly found on Google Maps.
The Multimate Terschelling, and close to the campsite too. I can walk there. They also have an adapter from 12 volts to 220 volts. What luck!
Behind the counter stands a friendly boy with freckles and red hair. He pays for the adapter with me.
To be sure, he asks: “What do you want to use the adapter for?”
I explain to him that it is for a cool box that I want to connect to the 220 volts of the campsite.
“Oh, then the question is whether that will work,” says the cashier. “How many amps does the cool box have? This adapter can only handle 400 milliamps. Definitely not enough for a cool box.”
Amps? That was second-rate physics.
Long time ago for me. I have no idea. I look at the boy, hazy.
“You know what?” says the red-haired boy, “check at the campsite how many amps the refrigerator uses. Then come back and let me know. I can solder together a suitable adapter for you tonight after work. Just leave the adapter you just bought here – it’s no use to you. Here’s your money again.”
I am completely stunned.
What incredible customer service!
I'll be honest with you.
You will not experience such customer service at Adrem.
And that's a good thing. You better not let me solder electrical things together. That only causes fires.
But you can use a ready-made van rent from us in the Heerlen region.
In case you have to go to the Multimate.
Or to another hardware store.
