Insurance for your van
Not such a pleasant subject: insurance.
Personally I hate it. I can get really irritated by insurance company advertisements that scare me about what might happen.
Fine, but why are they making it so difficult if I am insured and they actually have to pay me something?
You can take out insurance.
Sometimes because they are obligatory, sometimes voluntary.
Since you have reserved a van or delivery van, I would like to send you some tips on what to look out for when taking out rental car insurance.
At Adrem Limburg, all vehicles are covered by third-party liability insurance and comprehensive insurance for all countries within the Green Card coverage area. The maximum third-party liability coverage is €2,5 million per event.
Insurance - deductible
Car rental companies usually have a deductible in the rental contract. This deductible is charged if damage occurs during the rental that we cannot recover from the other party.
In case of damage, you can think of 3 cases:
- You stop at a traffic light, and someone crashes into the back of your rented van. In this case, the damage is recovered from the person behind you, and you do not have to pay anything extra to the car rental company.
- You hit a pole, a tree or another vehicle during the rental. In this case, the deductible will be calculated.
- You park the car to go and have a cup of coffee somewhere. When you return, it turns out that someone has hit your rental car, but the guilty party has not left a note under the windshield wiper. In that case, the rental company is forced to charge the excess; the damage cannot be recovered from the other party.
At Adrem Limburg, we have a high deductible. In our experience, renters become more cautious with a high deductible. This deductible can be reduced to a lower amount for an additional premium. For our vans, we apply the following standard deductibles and the deductible buyout (insurance rates exclude VAT):
Commercial vehicle (category R) van (category S, T and U):
- standard deductible: EUR 1500, no extra costs
- deductible bought off: EUR 450, for EUR 15 per day
Vans with furniture box (category V):
- standard deductible: EUR 1750, no extra costs
- deductible bought off: EUR 650, for EUR 25 per day
When collecting the van, you can indicate whether or not you want to reduce the deductible.
When are you insured?
The rental car is only insured when we are in possession of all the identification of persons who will drive the car. This means that when a person with a driver's license drives the car, but is not known to us, the car is not insured.
At Adrem Limburg it is possible for multiple people to drive the car. There are no extra costs for this. Of course we do need to receive a copy of the ID and driver's license of each driver before the car is rented.
