Insurance for your rental car
Not such a nice subject: insurance.
Personally I hate it. I can get really irritated by insurance company advertisements that scare me about what might happen.
Fine, but why are they making it so difficult if I am insured and they actually have to pay me something?
You can take out insurance.
Sometimes because they are obligatory, sometimes voluntary.
Since you have reserved a car, I would like to give you some tips on what to look out for when taking out rental car insurance.
At Adrem Limburg, all cars are WA and fully comprehensively insured for all countries that are part of the coverage area of the green card. maximum liability coverage is €2,5 million per event.
Insurance - deductible
Car rental companies usually have a deductible in the rental contract. This deductible is charged if damage occurs during the rental that we cannot recover from the other party.
In case of damage, you can think of 3 cases:
- You stop at a traffic light, and someone crashes into the back of your rental car. In this case, the damage is recovered from the person behind you, and you do not have to pay anything extra to us.
- You hit a pole, a tree or another vehicle during the rental. In this case, the deductible will be calculated.
- You park the car to go and have a cup of coffee somewhere. When you return, it turns out that someone has hit your rental car, but the culprit has not left a note under the windshield wiper. Bummer. In that case, we will charge the deductible; the damage cannot be recovered from the other party.
At Adrem Limburg we have a high deductible. Our experience is that renters become more cautious with a high deductible. This deductible can be bought off to a lower amount for an additional premium. For all our passenger cars, the standard deductible and the buy-off deductible are the same (the insurance rates are exclusive of VAT):
- standard deductible for passenger cars: €1000, no extra costs
- deductible bought off: €250, for €12,50 per day
When you pick up the rental car, you can indicate whether or not you want to reduce the deductible.
When are you insured?
The rental car is only insured if we are in possession of all identification of persons who will drive the car. This means that if a person with a driver's license drives the car, but is not known to us, the car is not insured.
At Adrem Limburg it is possible for multiple people to drive the car. There are no extra costs for this. Of course we do need to receive a copy of the ID and driver's license of each driver before the car is rented.
