The future of driving

Electric driving, self-driving cars, car sharing… Driving will change drastically in the coming decades. Many changes have already been set in motion.

Electric driving

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming more commonplace on the streets. Their range is increasing, batteries are charging faster and prices are falling. There are now over 110 thousand cars in the Netherlands that run partly or completely on electricity. The number of charging points is also increasing.

The growth of electric vehicles will only continue. Perhaps hydrogen vehicles will be added to that, if that technology becomes cheaper. The combustion engine has really had its day and the electric revolution has started.

Autonomous driving

If it is up to some new car brands lies, cars will soon also drive (partly) autonomously. With the help of, among other things, adjustments to the road network, cameras, GPS and laser pulses, they will find their own way. Drivers will become passengers and the number of traffic accidents will decrease drastically.

There are still quite a few legal obstacles. Because who is liable in the event of an accident? For the time being, cars will still be equipped with a steering wheel and pedals, but in a few decades they will drive completely autonomously. The driver's license will then be a thing of the past.

Car sharing

In addition to electric and autonomous driving, there is a third development underway. Namely car sharing. Car sharing will take off, especially in busy cities. Your car is stationary 90 percent of the time, so why not share it with someone else?

Car sharing significantly reduces the cost of driving, while reducing parking pressure. This is a pressing problem in busy city centres and residential areas, now that everyone has two cars in front of their door.

What is your opinion on these developments? Do you already drive electric? And are you prepared to share your sacred cow with others? An electric rent a car in the Hoensbroek region can be found at Adrem!
