Three-year-old toddler drives car, causes damage
Toine is three years old.
His parents have a car rental company in Maastricht.
Toine walks around the company's courtyard.
There are several cars waiting for the next tenant.
Or they have already been rented out and still need to be cleaned for the next tenant.
There is no room for playground equipment in the courtyard.
Poor Toine.
He has to make do with parked cars.
But hey.
He will help his parents out.
He opens a door and climbs into the car.
The key is still in the ignition.
Gear in first, car not on the handbrake.
Then the brake cannot freeze.
Beautiful!
Toine only has to turn the key.
He has seen that often enough when his father starts a car.
Toine turns the key, and Bèng!
He crashes into the car in front of him.
3 years old, and 2 damages in one go.
His father comes running outside and is terrified.
He immediately starts shouting about paying the deductible.
Then he sees that his own son caused the damage.
Well, Toine hasn't received enough pocket money yet to be able to pay the deductible.
We are about twenty years further.
We now do not leave cars with the key in the ignition in our courtyard.
At our request, car manufacturers have changed the way a car starts. Nowadays, you have to press the clutch before a car starts.
You can therefore safely let your three-year-old play in a car.
So you don't have any playground equipment in your garden either?
To let your children play in.
Or, even better, take your kids along and do something fun instead of just working.
