King Willem-Alexander Tunnel trajectory control starts

Monday 20 March 2017 the first phase of the trajectory control in the King Willem-Alexander tunnel started. If you travel on the A2 (100 km/h) in a southerly direction, you better keep to the speed limit if you want to avoid a fine.

In the long term, all four tubes of the tunnel will have section control. On 1 May, section control on the A2 will also start in a northerly direction. This also applies to the N2 (80 km/h) in the same direction. Section control on the N2 in a southerly direction will start at the end of May.

A2 (100 km/h)

• A2 southern: Monday 20 March
• A2 Northern: Saturday May 1st

N2 (80 km/h)

• N2 north: Saturday 1 May
• N2 southern: end of May

Traject control

Only at the beginning and at the end of each tunnel a camera will be placed. The route is therefore not divided into multiple sections. The two cameras register the moment you enter and exit the 2,5 km long tunnel. Based on the time between them, your average speed is calculated. If it is too high, you will receive a fine.

A camera used for speed checks can did not measure your current speed. Based on a trajectory check, you cannot be fined for a peak speed that is too high. Of course, this is still possible if there is a check on the spot with, for example, a laser gun or mobile radar equipment.

A trajectory control works 24/7. So also at night, when the road is quiet, which may invite you to step on the gas. So be warned! Rent a car in the Geleen region? Watch your speed!
