De washer is without a doubt one of the most difficult parts of your household to move. It is a large, bulky and heavy appliance that is difficult to carry up or down a narrow staircase. Quite different from a few moving boxes. How do you get the washing machine safely to your new house? A few tips.

Disconnect

Moving a washing machine naturally starts with the right preparation. connections It is best to disconnect the electricity and water the evening before the move, a measure that is especially important for the water connection because it usually takes a few hours to drain completely. By letting the hose drain properly and taping it to the appliance itself on the day of the move, you prevent unnecessary water from leaking from the washing machine. Any water that remains in the washing machine system can be removed by first placing the appliance on a raised surface and then tilting it. By opening the filter (first remove the strip or flap) you can let the water drain from the washing machine and collect it in a bucket or basin.

Protection when moving a washing machine

When transporting a washing machine, it is first of all important to drum protection to secure. By securing the drum, one of the more vulnerable and also most important parts of the appliance, with bolts or iron rods, it will stay in the right place during transport. Good protection of the drum prevents the washing machine from getting damaged on the inside and from starting to show wobbles after the move. Do you no longer have the protective brackets or pins? Then an option is to unscrew the top of the washing machine and fill the resulting open space with a few towels or a pillow. To prevent scratches, dents or other external damage (it is not that difficult to bump into a wall during the move), it is also useful to wrap a piece of plastic or bubble wrap around the appliance.

Transport

After you have finally carried the washing machine downstairs with the necessary fitting and measuring and a fair amount of sweat, the appliance begins its journey to its new home. If you have hired a moving company, you will be free of most of the worries, but many people prefer to transport their belongings themselves. Using your own car is not the best option and offers a more than imaginary chance of damage to the equipment and the vehicle. Transporting your washing machine in an upright position is the best and safest way and minimizes the chance of damage to the drum and pipes. The best option is to rent a trailer or delivery van. Make sure that the washing machine is properly secured and cannot tip over in the van.

Protect your back

A washing machine is of course a large and cumbersome appliance that can easily weigh between 65 and 80 kilos on the scale. Unless you are an accomplished weightlifter, it is wise to always lift such a monster with two people. To prevent you from ending up in the hospital with a hernia, it is important to keep your back as straight as possible while lifting. Fortunately, there are aids to make the heavy lifting somewhat easier. Renting a small hand truck (often possible at moving companies or hardware stores) can also provide a solution when transporting a washing machine. There are even special models with which you can also relatively easily drive washing machines up a flight of stairs. If you really can't manage to lug the washing machine as a whole, you can also temporarily remove the concrete weights of the appliance by unscrewing the top or back. In this way, you effectively divide the total weight in two.

In addition to moving your washing machine, there are other important topics that you should definitely not forget. Therefore, take a look at our checklist about the preparing for a move.
