It may happen that something happens when you going to rent a van which causes a form of damage. This is of course not nice as a renter, but unfortunately accidents can sometimes happen. A form of damage that sometimes occurs with our buses, for example, is overhead damage. Because damage and its consequences are not always clear, we will explain in this blog what overhead damage is and what it means if this form of damage occurs when you rent a bus from us.

What does overhead damage look like?

Overhead damage is a form of damage that often only occurs with buses or other vehicles higher than 1.90 meters. This type of damage is located 75 cm below the roof edge measured from above. This can happen, for example, due to a collision with another vehicle, tunnel or sudden height difference. In order to prevent overhead damage, there are a number of things that you as a renter and driver should pay close attention to on the road.

It is important that you always drive carefully and responsibly. Think about the right speed or not taking certain risks. It is also useful to know the height of the vehicle. This way you can pay attention to maximum driving heights of, for example, tunnels, bridges and viaducts. Of course, at such times it is also wise to ask for assistance from, for example, your co-driver.

When giving a van, we warn against overhead damage. The van contains labels with the height of the van. If you drive under a bridge or tunnel, the height is always indicated. Therefore, make sure that you can fit under the bridge with the rented van.

Other forms of damage

In addition to overhead damage, there are other forms of a pity. There are various types of damage that a driver cannot do much about. Think of fire damage or window damage when a crack occurs, just like hail damage or damage due to vandalism. Damage without a perpetrator, i.e. damage where the perpetrator is unknown, is also a type of damage that a driver cannot do anything about. But what influence do the various types of damage have on the bus or car rental company? And when is who liable? In the last section we will tell you more about liability for damage, and therefore also for overhead damage.

The deductible depends on what has been agreed and is stated in the rental agreement. As the renter, you pay the costs for the damage driven with a maximum of the agreed deductible. This can be the standard deductible or the bought-out deductible. These costs are then added to the agreed rental price. You always sign for this when you agree to the rental agreement.

In addition to the rental price, you also pay insurance. This is the so-called WA insurance, or the Liability Insurance Act. This insurance does not cover damage caused by the driver of the car.
