What is the typical car for women?

The differences between men and women

Where previously it was mainly men who were involved with cars, this has changed significantly in recent decades. Nowadays, it is not only men who drive cars, buy cars, and rent cars. Women are increasingly involved in this 'man thing' and also make their own conscious choices when it comes to cars.

Also when renting cars we sometimes notice big differences between men and women. But what are these differences and are the prejudices about both men and women justified?

Men look at power and speed

When a man enters our store in Maastricht, he is looking for a rental car that accelerates quickly and drives smoothly. It varies what the car will be used for, but by definition the man is mainly looking at the power and speed of our rental cars.

What we mainly see is that men who come to us for a temporary rental car are looking for a car that drives almost the same as their own company lease car that is at the garage for maintenance. Those few days that they are without the car, they want to notice it as little as possible.

Furthermore, the car must have a tough or sporty look for men. The car is a kind of billboard for his friends and acquaintances. Status and image therefore remain important. An example as a temporary replacement for the lease car is often this Volkswagen Passat.

Women pay attention to size and economy

Unlike men, who pay a lot of attention to speed and appearance, women pay attention to choosing a rental car yet often on other points. The size of the car is the first thing women pay attention to: can I easily turn, turn, and of course...park?

For women, our rental cars should therefore be easy to use, really serving a purpose. In a city like Maastricht, the car should not be too big, because that is not easy to drive and is inconvenient when parking for a quick visit to a store. Men clearly see this differently. An example of an easy car that is often rented by women is the Volkswagen Golf.

For example, a woman looks much more at the energy efficiency of a car. Whether this is because women are much more environmentally conscious or because they need to refuel less is difficult to estimate. But women ask about it more often than men.

Hardly any difference for a rental car on holiday

When choosing one rental car for vacation, the differences between men and women are much smaller. When the car is going to be used to go on holiday, the first thing a man looks at is the luggage space of the car. This differs little from women. The most popular rental car with both men and women is the Ford Focus station wagon.

Trend of more women noticeable

So far, most prejudices have been confirmed. However, in recent years, a trend has been noticeable here in Maastricht where we see that more and more women are looking for a temporary replacement for their lease car.

What is striking is that women are also increasingly looking for an equivalent variant for a few days. Women do not look so much at the number of horsepower or the engine of the car, but pay attention to whether the appearance of the car is approximately the same. Women therefore think carefully about how they come across to their work relations.
