When you need to transport a washing machine or some moving boxes, you have a choice: should you hire a trailer or a \"boedelbak\" (a type of trailer), or a van? Price plays a role, but so do practical considerations. An explanation.<\/p>\n
A covered trailer (removal trailer) protects your valuables from the elements and offers the necessary loading space, but often with a limited load capacity.<\/p>\n
A trailer is \u2018simply\u2019 covered by your car insurance, so you don't need to take out a separate policy.<\/p>\n
Naturally, to tow a trailer, you'll need a car with a towbar and an official (white) number plate for the trailer. Also, don't forget that a maximum speed of 90 kilometres per hour applies to a car plus trailer on the (motor)way.<\/p>\n
People who aren't used to it often find driving with a trailer awkward and even frightening. In particular, turning and reversing causes many drivers to have sweaty palms.<\/p>\n
If the weight of the trailer is more than 750 kg, you need a BE or B+ driving licence. This also applies if the combined weight of the car and trailer exceeds 3500 kg.<\/p>\n
A van or small panel van is in many cases at least as suitable and just as advantageous as a covered trailer. A small panel van also offers you more loading space.<\/p>\n
A delivery van and a small van can be driven with a \u2018regular\u2019 Category B driving licence and they have practically the same driving characteristics as a normal car. The only disadvantage is that a delivery van or small van only offers space for one passenger.<\/p>\n
What is cheaper to rent now: a trailer or a van?<\/p>\n
We compared our small van (6 m\u00b3 of cargo space) with the most rented trailer: the Boedelbak type CH, with a cargo space of approx. 4.8 m\u00b3. What did we find? The two are practically the same price in the end, while the small van offers you a quarter more cargo space.<\/p>\n

Renting a small van costs \u20ac19.90 per part-day with us (comparable to the 3 hours for the trailer) and \u20ac27.50 per day. In addition, there's a charge of \u20ac11.50 for insurance and \u20ac0.19 per kilometre, plus VAT, bringing the total to \u20ac38 per part-day and \u20ac47.19 per calendar day.<\/p>\n
For the sake of simplicity, we have disregarded fuel costs, as you would naturally incur these with your own car and a rented trailer.<\/p>\n
