Limburg may be the seventh largest province in the country by population, but its speed cameras see a lot of action. Only Zuid-Holland, Noord-Brabant, and Noord-Holland had more speeding violations caught on camera last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This can be read on the website of the newspaper De Limburger. They are basing this on figures from the CJIB, which were requested by LocalFocus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Limburg: The most \u2018flashy\u2019 province.<\/h2>\n

Nearly 474,000 traffic fines were issued in Limburg in 2016 for speeding or running red lights. 456,252 were for speeding and 17,595 for running red lights. In proportion to the number of inhabitants, no other province has more speed checks.<\/p>\n

Maastricht<\/h2>\n

The speed camera along Viaductweg in Maastricht, near Franciscus Romanusweg, was particularly busy. A speed limit of 50 km\/h applies here. Preferably 40.199<\/strong> vehicles drove faster (or through red lights). An average of just over 110(!)<\/strong> fines per day. Even if each flashed vehicle committed only a minimal (speeding) infringement, this pole alone would have filled the State Treasury with over 1 million euros!<\/p>\n

Venlo<\/h2>\n

Number two is located in Venlo, along the Weselseweg, before the junction with the Schoolweg. This speed camera flashed a total of 39,856 times, with a speed limit of 50 km\/h in place. The same junction also has a speed camera facing the other direction.<\/p>\n

Heerlen<\/h2>\n

It is, of course, a good idea to stick to the speed limit anyway, but along the N281 in Heerlen, extra caution is advised. Here, in both directions, there are as many as four speed cameras<\/strong>. Two of those are in the top 10, at positions 4 and 7.<\/p>\n

Fine in your rental car?<\/h2>\n

Naturally, it can also happen that you committed a traffic offence while driving a rental car. The fine is issued to the license plate, so we receive the penalty notice. We then forward it \u2013 without charging any administrative fees ;-) \u2013 to the person in whose name the rental agreement was registered. If someone else was driving the car at the time? Then you'll have to sort out amongst yourselves who is responsible for the fine.<\/p>\n
