Largest car-producing countries<\/h2>\n

Which country produces the most cars, do you think? The United States for sure, or else Japan or Germany? Guess again, because the correct answer is China. That country made more cars in 2017 than the three countries mentioned above combined!<\/p>\n

Not surprising, given that for example Volkswagen, the second largest car brand in the world, has many of its cars made in China. But China also has its own new car brands<\/a>, of which Changan is the most popular. Changan also produces Mazdas for the Chinese market.<\/p>\n

Largest car manufacturers<\/h2>\n

Yet, China is not found in the top-10 of largest car manufacturers. The top-10 is dominated by Japan, the US and Europe. The world's largest car manufacturer is Toyota, with an annual production of 10.2 million (2016) vehicles.<\/p>\n

The difference with the production of Volkswagen Group \u2013 number 2 on the list \u2013 is marginal. Note that Audi, Seat, and \u0160koda also belong to the VW family. This is in addition to the luxury brands Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche, which contribute relatively little to production quantitatively.<\/p>\n

At number 3 is the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), where Kia cars, in addition to Hyundais, roll off the production line. HMG is closely followed by number 4, General Motors (GM), manufacturer of typical American brands such as Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. At number 5 sits Ford, which \u2013 in addition to some luxury Lincolns \u2013 primarily produces Fords.<\/p>\n

At numbers 6 and 7 in the top 10, we find two more Japanese manufacturers: Nissan Motor Company (brands: Nissan, Infinity, Datsun) and Honda Motor Company (Honda).<\/p>\n

In 8, the holding company is Fiat Chrysler, which has its head office in the Netherlands for tax reasons. Alfa-Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Maserati, Jeep and RAM are the brands of this group. Fiat Chrysler also has a majority stake in Ferrari.<\/p>\n

On page 9, Groupe Renault is mentioned, which holds a significant stake in Nissan, which in turn holds a (smaller) stake in Renault. Renault and Nissan each also hold a small stake in Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) and vice versa.<\/p>\n

The top 10 is rounded off by Groupe PSA, with the brands Peugeot, Citro\u00ebn and Opel.<\/p>\n
