The nicest family outings in South Limburg

There's of course a tremendous amount to do in South Limburg. But what if you have children and grandparents want to come along? What are your options then? We've put five of them in a row for you. From cheap to a bit more expensiv(e).

Hoensbroek Castle

Hoensbroek Castle boasts a rich history, which you can experience in its more than forty rooms. The highlight is the old, round castle tower, with its damp dungeon. You can climb upwards via a narrowing staircase, all the way to the attic. The castle was built over several centuries and, in addition to medieval sections, also has more modern parts. A tour through Hoensbroek Castle is therefore a real journey through time. There are also special activities for children, such as treasure hunts. And throughout the year, there are various events.

Steinerwood

Steinerbos is a recreational park and adventure playground in Stein. In fact, you could see it as one large forest with play equipment dotted around. The children can play to their heart's content here, while you can enjoy nature at the same time. There is also a rowing lake and an outdoor swimming pool. You can get refreshments at the various kiosks. The entrance fee is reasonable and you can easily spend a whole (mid)day there. Bet the kids (and grandma and grandpa) will return home tired but satisfied?

De Valkenier Amusement Park

Honestly, you wouldn't travel all the way from Groningen just for Pretpark De Valkenier. But if you live in the area or happen to be on holiday nearby, this family fun park is definitely worth a visit. The entrance fee is certainly reasonable. Attractions like the rollercoaster, moon rocket, and haunted castle evoke nostalgic feelings for multiple generations. In recent years, the park has also been significantly modernised, making it right up-to-date!

GaiaZOO

GaiaZOO in Kerkrade is without a doubt one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe. In its four areas, you can discover animal species from all over the world. Giraffes, leopards, rhinos, gorillas, wolves and many other animals. In the playground, JungleTour and indoor DinoDome, you can play and climb to your heart's content. At the Plateau van Gaia restaurant, you can have a quick or leisurely lunch. If you live nearby, it's best to buy an annual pass because GaiaZOO is worth more than just one visit!

Leisure Dome

Leisure Dome, located next to the Parkstad Limburg Stadium in Kerkrade, where Roda JC plays its home football matches, offers something for everyone, no matter their age. In the indoor playground, Darteldome, children up to the age of 12 can entertain themselves for hours. Furthermore, you can go bowling, play glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, and enjoy laser tag, among other activities. Leisure Dome also houses a wildly popular Italian restaurant and an all-you-can-eat restaurant, complete with a traditional wok restaurant. Within a 100-metre radius, there are several other eateries, including a fast-food restaurant, two sandwich shops, and more. Finally, at Vue, a state-of-the-art cinema, you can catch a film. If you can't spend a day here, we don't know what will!
