Extend or shorten rent?

There are numerous situations imaginable where you might need a rental car or van for a shorter or longer period than expected. Not every car rental company makes it equally easy to return a car earlier or later. We're not too difficult about that.

A change to the rental period naturally means a change to the rental price, but possibly also to the applicable rental rate. Different daily rates apply to different rental periods.

Rent a flat

Suppose you rent a microcar from us for a week. Let's say a Toyota Aygo. Then you pay the advantageous daily rate of €9.99. If you unexpectedly need the car for a shorter period and return it, for example, after five days or sooner, then the regular daily rate of €12.49 applies and your discount of €2.50 per day is lost.

Longer rental

Of course, it works the other way around, too. If you hire a car or bus from us for a few days and you want to extend the rental period to, say, a week, you will also pay the favourable daily rate that applies to that rental period.

Van

For our vans and minibuses, different rates apply on Saturdays compared to weekdays. If you book a van or minibus for Friday and unexpectedly also need it on Saturday, two different daily rates will therefore apply.

Can I always extend?

It is almost always possible to extend the rental period of a car or bus. It is important to inform us as soon as possible so that we can reserve the vehicle for you for longer. With us, there are no additional costs beyond the extra rent, insurance, and miles, such as for amending the rental agreement.

However, if you return a car late without reporting it, the rental will automatically continue, and you will be charged a penalty of €50 per day on top of this. Please note that if a car is returned late, we may be unable to serve a subsequent customer – especially during busy periods!

In summary

There are various scenarios imaginable where you might need a hire car for a shorter or longer period, which we cannot all explain here. Simply put, at Adrem we always determine the hire price afterwards. We base this on the number of days the car was actually hired and not on the number of days for which the car was reserved.

Not all car hire companies operate this way. Please remember that we cannot always re-rent a car returned early within the booked period, and thus we miss out on rental income.

Finally

Finally, please note that with some other rental companies, you will pay a higher rate for an extension than the regular rate! It is – as strange as that may sound – then wiser to return the vehicle on time and rent a new one. Bizarre, isn't it? With us, you can usually always change a reservation quickly and easily, without ‘unexplained’ extra costs. That's another reason to rent from Adrem!
