Free parking in Maastricht is really only possible in one place: P+R Noord on the edge of the city. Nowhere in the centre is parking free, and prices vary widely. On the street you pay €3.70 per hour, and under the Vrijthof the daily rate rises to €35. Below you will find the current rates per type of location, the paid parking hours and practical tips for your visit.
Where can you park for free in Maastricht?
Free parking in Maastricht is possible at P+R Maastricht Noord on the Hoekerweg. This is the only truly free car park. It is two minutes from the A2 and A79 and has 516 spaces. You cannot reserve a space, and there is no barrier or camera surveillance, so don't leave any belongings in your car. Leaving your car for a few days is fine, but not for weeks.
From P+R Noord you continue by bus 3, 10 or 30. Bus 10 runs every quarter of an hour and takes about twelve minutes to reach the centre. A return ticket costs €2.55 per person. If you travel with three to five people, you can buy a group return for €6.40. Up to two children aged 4 to 11 travel free after 9:00 am per paid ticket. With OVpay you check in and out yourself at P+R Noord and pay €1.28 per journey.
On the street, parking is free outside paid parking hours. Paid parking applies Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. On Thursdays it lasts until 9:00 pm, and on Sundays it applies from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Do watch the signs, because different rules may apply in permit areas. Maastricht University students park for free at Randwyck.
Cheap or free parking in Maastricht: P+W car parks and P+R Station
Park + Walk car parks are a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Markt and the Vrijthof. You pay a fixed daily rate, so a long visit stays affordable. With 1,308 spaces, Frontenpark is the largest car park in the city. If you book online, the daily rate there starts at €12 and never goes above €17.50.
| Location | Rate | Maximum per day |
| Fort Willem | €1.90 per hour | €8,30 |
| Stadspark | €1.50 per 50 minutes | €14,00 |
| Bonnefanten (Sat and Sun) | €1.50 per 50 minutes | €14,00 |
| Frontenpark | €1.50 per 32 minutes | €18.00 (online from €12) |
| P+R Station | €2.86 per hour | €18,00 |
Bonnefanten is only a P+W location at weekends. During the week you pay the regular daily rate of €21 there. P+R Station is next to the central station. Anyone making a domestic train journey on the same day gets a lower rate.
Car parks in Maastricht and their rates
Most car parks are open day and night and you pay per started time unit. The closer to the Vrijthof, the shorter that unit and the higher the daily rate. You can book online at Vrijthof, Mosae Forum, De Griend, Plein 1992, De Colonel, Bassin, Bonnefanten and Frontenpark, among others.
| Car park | Rate | Maximum per day |
| Vrijthof | €1.50 per 16 minutes | €35,00 |
| Mosae Forum | €1.50 per 25 minutes | €28,50 |
| O.L. Vrouweparking | €1.50 per 25 minutes | €28,50 |

| De Colonel | €1.50 per 32 minutes | €18,00 |
| De Griend | €1.50 per 32 minutes | €18,00 |
| Sphinx | €1.50 per 32 minutes | €18,00 |
Want to be sure of a space? Then choose a car park on your route, such as De Griend, Plein 1992 or De Colonel. Car parks close to the centre fill up sooner, especially at weekends.
Street parking in Maastricht: rates and paid parking hours
On the street, Maastricht uses two zones. In the inner city within the singels, you have paid €3.70 per hour since 1 January 2026. After the first two hours, the rate rises to about €5.30 per hour. In the remaining area outside the singels you pay €1.90 per hour, with a day ticket of €8.30.
The two-hour maximum parking duration has been abolished in the centre, Wyck and Sint Maartenspoort, among other areas. A maximum still applies in some neighbourhoods. You also pay between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Sundays and public holidays. A parking fine costs €82 in 2026 plus the rate for one hour of parking. You can pay with your phone or with coins.

Parking in Maastricht with a tour bus
For coaches there is a fixed drop-off and pick-up point on the Maasboulevard and the Frontensingel. You may stop here for a maximum of thirty minutes to let passengers on and off. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the spaces on the Frontensingel are reserved for permit holders. At regular bus stops you may not stop for longer than five minutes.
The Vrijthof is closed to coaches and the tunnel at Mosae Forum has a maximum height of 4.10 metres. After unloading, drive to the car park at De Geusselt stadium. Parking is free there, but the car park is not supervised.

Since I have free travel on public transport, I'll park at the station in Meerssen and take the train from there. Free of charge.
That's a good idea Heinz, thanks for the suggestion!
Dear Mr. Pieper,Is it also possible to park for free near the MECC? We were once close by a small shopping centre, and we could park there for free, but I can't remember if that was at the weekend or during the week. I can no longer find the name of that shopping centre or the street (square).
Dear Astrid, thank you for your reply!
There is a small shopping centre in Heugem, the Beente. You can park for free there. Furthermore, there are free parking spaces at the primary school OBS de Spiegel.
One last possibility we still know of is at the car park by Heuts – these stickers are for visitors of the car park.
Recently, I parked for free on Madoerastraat (near Fatimaplein). Yesterday, I had destinations further west and found parking meters at Hunnenweg and Prins Mauritslaan! However, I only discovered these on my return journey and still managed to get away without a parking fine.
Eastern targets were meant.
In the north, I was once in an industrial estate (Fort Willemweg).
The MECC also benefited from an industrial estate: Sint Gerardusweg and Heerderswarstraat.
Sunday 04/02/18, just popping to the market for a burger, parked for 15 minutes in Bosstraat = a fine. Apparently, it's paid parking even on a shopping Sunday, and EVERY Sunday is a shopping Sunday! How on earth am I supposed to know that?
This is Kafkaesque
A blue bar on the kerb indicates a parking zone with a maximum parking time of 2 hours. This is the case, for example, in Röntgenstraat and Elisabeth Gruyterstraat. Do you also have to pay for those 2 hours, or is it free?
Dear Mr Pieper,
I have a parking space to rent at the Groene Loper in Maastricht; it's a secured car park, and you can only enter and exit it with a key card.
Do you perhaps know how I can find potential buyers for that parking space?
Hello Walter, I am interested and can be reached at 0611210493
Is this parking space still available to rent?
The information is no longer up to date.
The shops are closed on Sundays now, so why pay to park around the centre?
That is a very good question. I would think that parking should be free now.
If I buy a parking day ticket tomorrow, January 6th, in the St. Pieter district and I need to be at Oranjeplein in the afternoon, can I use the same day ticket?
In the outer areas of Maastricht, you can park your car all day for €6.60. Is there also a map showing what those outer areas are?
We will be in Maastricht from the afternoon of 24th April until 5 pm on 27th April and have our bicycles with us. Frontenpark can only be reserved for 1 day, where else is there a possibility and safe for a maximum of €10 per day?
If you park in Maastricht at the signs for free parking, it's still about a good half-hour walk to the centre. There's often no other option, as parking in Maastricht is rather expensive. Especially now that the new Q-Parking is finished, where you can park on 3 or 4 levels, that has to be paid for. I always used to park my car there, but I'm completely fed up with that now. I'd rather walk for half an hour to the centre then...
Where can I park for free near the Vrijthof with my disabled badge?
Rates are out of date! See https://www.parkeren-maastricht.nl/ For the current rates.
Parking at the Vrijthof is frankly scandalous, okay, you are right in the city centre but if you have limited mobility, you don't really have many other options, I believe.
Belachelijk dat op het Fatimaplein op zondag parkeergeld betaald moet worden ! Ff een frietje halen in de frituur en nu een parkeerbon ontvangen van 83.90 euro ! en dat om 17.12 u.
