Renting a car: what does it actually cost? What do I pay for the mileage and will I avoid any unexpected costs? These are the questions we hear most often. It's not surprising, as you naturally want to know what you're paying for and what your final cost will be. We're happy to provide clarity.
No vague all-in tariffs
We place great value on transparency. That's why we don't list vague all-in prices on our website, where you don't know exactly what you're paying for. Instead, we've broken down our rate and you can easily calculate the total rental price yourself on our site. This way, you'll know what you're paying at the end of the day and exactly how much you're spending on rent, insurance, mileage, and VAT.
When you rent a car, you pay for the following.
Rent
Naturally, you first pay for the ‘base’ rental of the car. This is a fixed amount you pay for the rental period (a part-day, day or week) and is independent of the number of kilometres you drive.
For example, if it states that you can hire a car for 12.50 euros per day, then this is the amount you will pay per day for hiring your car, excluding the costs for insurance, mileage and VAT.
2. Insurance
When you rent a car, you are required to take out third-party, fire and theft insurance, plus comprehensive insurance. This is to protect yourself, others, and us from the (financial) consequences of a potential accident.
The insurance cost is listed, like the rental price, for the relevant rental period. Please note that you are taking out insurance for at least one day, even if you rent a car by the hour or part of a day.
3. VAT (Value Added Tax)
Companies pay tax on their turnover: so-called turnover tax, better known as VAT. This VAT is usually passed on to the consumer and therefore comes on top of the selling price, or in this case, the rental price.
Entrepreneurs can usually deduct or reclaim the VAT they have paid. A large proportion of our target audience consists of business tenants, who place more value on prices excluding VAT than including it. This is why we always state our prices exclusive of VAT. The consumer price is calculated by adding the applicable VAT rate of 21 percent.
Example: Our website states that you can hire a car for €12.50 per day. Add to this 21%%, which is €2.63 VAT. You will then pay €12.50 + €2.63 = €15.13 including VAT.
And the deposit?
The deposit is not actually part of the rental costs. The deposit is a security deposit, or collateral, that you pay to us, which you will in principle get back in full later.
Right. Now you know exactly how our rates are structured for what you pay to hire a car or Bus in Limburg!
