How much longer will we be fuelling with petrol?

Fossil fuels – coal, oil, and gas – have had their day. And with them, petrol and diesel. How much longer will we be fuelling up with petrol and diesel? The answer to that question isn't all that difficult. Or is it?

From 2030, no cars that emit CO2 will be allowed to be sold in the Netherlands. That is stated in the Coalition Agreement. A car lasts about fifteen years. So around 2045, the last petrol and diesel cars will disappear from Dutch roads. Excluding vintage cars.

Availability of petrol and diesel

The question is whether petrol and diesel will remain available for that long at all. From 2030, the share of petrol and diesel cars will steadily decline, and with it the demand for these fuels. Petrol station owners will be scratching their heads and looking for a new revenue model.

The transition from petrol and diesel cars to fully electric vehicles will take place gradually over the coming decades. In fact, 2.91% of all new cars currently being sold are already fully electric. That may not seem like much, but it represents a doubling compared with the previous year. That proportion is set to rise further as we approach 2030.

And us? We will also gradually modernise our fleet towards 2030, replacing old petrol and diesel cars with fully electric vehicles. We already have several hybrid cars in our range, which can also be driven entirely on electricity.

What do you think? Should Adrem quickly start offering electric cars, even if they are more expensive to rent? Or should we wait until the range is greater? Either way, a Car hire in the Urmond region Do you work at Adrem!
