Car seating position

Hoe moet je de autostoel instellen voor de juiste zithouding?

The correct sitting posture in the car is very important for your health and safety. If you do not adopt a good sitting posture, you can suffer from back and neck problems, and airbags may not function optimally in the event of a traffic accident. In this blog, we will therefore tell you what the correct sitting posture in a car is and how to adjust your car seat to achieve this posture.

Wat is de juiste zithouding in een auto?

Everyone sits differently in the car. Some sit bolt upright and close to the steering wheel, others a bit crooked, and yet others are slightly slumped. Especially when you're stuck in traffic and look around, you see the strangest seating positions. It probably also happens often enough that you're comfortably slumped or perhaps sitting with one leg bent. However, the correct seating posture in a car is very important. But what exactly is the correct seating posture?

To achieve a good seating position, sit up straight in the car with your pelvis as far back in the seat as possible. If your seat has lumbar support, try to create as much support as possible for your lower back. Place your head against the headrest and look straight ahead.

Adjusting the car seat correctly

To achieve the correct sitting position, it's important that your car seat is adjusted properly. The backrest needs to support your back and shoulders as much as possible, and you must be able to operate the pedals comfortably. How do you ensure this?

First, check if the seat is far enough forward or back. To do this, slide the seat forward until you can fully depress the accelerator and brake pedals with your right leg, or until your left leg touches the clutch. When depressing the pedals, your thigh should always rest on the seat, as you should operate the pedals from your ankles. When your legs are slightly bent, you have reached the correct position.

Next, you also need to adjust the headrest correctly. It should not be set too low, but it should not stick out above the head either.

Finally, you need to correctly adjust the backrest of your car seat. Most people lean back a little too far while driving. To achieve the ideal seating position, the angle between your thighs and your torso should be approximately 90 degrees. This means forming a straight line.

Now that you've adjusted your car seat correctly, you can also adjust the steering wheel. When you hold the steering wheel, your elbows should be slightly bent. Therefore, adjust the steering wheel so that you can rest your wrists on the top edge of the steering wheel.
