When you're going to rent a car, you have multiple car rental companies to choose from. Furthermore, there are tons of makes and types of cars to select from. You can read how to best choose a rental car in this blog. In addition, there are other matters to consider, such as the rental car's insurance. How are you insured when you drive a rental car? When you rent the car, you will notice that the rental price is almost always without insurance. Nevertheless, you are legally obliged to also take out car insurance.
Different types of hire car insurance
When you rent a car, you have various insurance options, just like with your own car. Below are the best-known ones:
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for rental car
The WA insurance for a rental car is legally required in the Netherlands and all countries within the European Union. This covers damage caused by you to people or property. The insurance only applies to other people's property and does not cover damage to your car.
Rental car insurance
Comprehensive insurance for your hire car ensures that you are largely less liable for damages to the hire car, meaning damages are partly reimbursed. Within comprehensive insurance, a distinction is made between limited and full comprehensive. With limited comprehensive, in addition to third-party liability insurance, you are also insured against theft, damage to the windscreen, burglary, and collisions with wild animals. Full comprehensive is also known as all-risk insurance for a hire car. This is the insurance with the most extensive cover. With all-risk insurance, the hire car is also fully covered against damage, even if you are responsible for it yourself.

What about the excess on hire car insurance?
When you rent a car, you'll encounter an excess payment on the rental car insurance. Would you like to know more about the excess on a rental car? Read this blog then. You pay a deductible when the vehicle sustains damage during the rental period that cannot be recovered from another party. For example, if you hit a bollard while parking. You also pay a deductible for damage to the rental car in cases where the other party cannot be identified. This could include instances where someone has bumped into your parked car without leaving a note with their details. Read more in this blog about what happens if your rental car suffers damage.
When are you insured?
When you hire a car and multiple people will be driving it, the car rental company will require valid identification and driving licenses from each driver. The rental car is only insured when the rental company is in possession of these documents. If a person drives the car but is not registered with the rental company, then in short, the car is not insured. High excess insurance with Adrem Car Rental
At Adrem Limburg, we have higher excess amounts. Our experience shows that tenants are more careful when the excess on a rental car is higher. This excess can, however, be reduced to a lower amount for an additional fee. The amount of the excess and the fee for reducing it depend on the vehicle you hire. Feel free to inquire about the exact amounts when booking.
At Adrem Limburg, it's also possible for multiple people to drive the car, with no additional costs involved. However, we do ask you to provide a copy of the identification details and driving licence of each driver before the car is rented. At Adrem Limburg, all cars are third-party liability and fully insured for all countries that fall within the green card coverage area. The maximum third-party liability cover is €2.5 million per incident. The overview of all countries is on the green card that you will find in the rental car. Are you uncertain whether your destination country is on the list? Please contact us!

I occasionally want to rent a van. I'm going to transport a kitchen with it. What about liability if damage occurs during transport?.
Thanks in advance
Alwie Weerink
Dear Alwie,
Thank you for your response. The items that you transport yourself by bus are best insured by you. These are not covered by the removal insurance, but you can easily take out separate liability insurance for them.
Dear Alwie,
If it's your own property, you can insure it under a carrier's insurance. If not, you can take out carrier's liability insurance.
Hello
The car was delivered today
There's a very small dent in the lower plastic of the car door.
Perhaps there was very slight contact with the parking space next to my house, but I didn't notice it.
Will this have an impact on the cost of car insurance in the future if I buy a car, or will it have no impact?
If this has consequences, can you explain more about the extent of these consequences for my car insurance in the future? How much will the insurance increase by?
