Moving house is a hectic and stressful time for many people. The last thing you want is to be faced with unpleasant surprises, for example, concerning your contents insurance.
Have you ever considered whether your belongings are insured during your move? Accidents during loading and unloading or transport can happen easily. It's wise to check the policy conditions of your contents insurance or consult your insurance advisor. If necessary, you can take out special removal insurance, as even an all-risk contents insurance has its limitations and does not cover all damage.
Often, there are restrictive conditions during a house move and your standard contents insurance will only cover part or even none of the damage that occurs outside your home. If someone else is liable for the damage, for example, a friend helping you move, you can often claim this on their third-party liability insurance.
Don't forget to also inform your insurance company of the change of address, as contents insurance doesn't always move with you automatically. Sometimes your contents will be insured at both the old and new address for a period, but this period is limited (usually 1-3 months). If you don't report a change of address, your contents insurance may even lapse and your belongings will not be insured at all. Also, don't forget to adjust your contents insurance if necessary.
