The 5 most popular holiday destinations

The summer holidays are just around the corner. And that means ‘we’ will be going abroad on holiday en masse again. But before you go, do the annual Holiday check for your car, so that you are not faced with any surprises along the way. But where do the Dutch actually go on holiday? We'll tell you in our top 5 holiday destinations.

France

This summer too, France is the most popular holiday destination among the Dutch. We will go there to sample the culture and, of course, the delicious cheese and wine. But we are going there mainly for the beautiful landscape. Many people go to France by caravan or camper, but holiday homes are also in demand. Southern France is traditionally very popular, with the Ardèche, Côte d’Azur, and Provence as favourite regions. Brittany and the Jura complete the top five most popular holiday regions in France. Are you also taking into account the mandatory environmental sticker when travelling to France?

Germany

Jawohl! Germany is the, perhaps surprising for some, runner-up in our top 5. Land of big beer steins and bratwurst, to name but a couple of clichés. (After all, we did the same for France.) Most people go to the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) or the Eifel. But Bavaria (Bayern) and Berlin are also popular destinations. Don't forget that tolls may soon be levied on German motorways. We wonder if Germany will still be in the top three most popular holiday destinations next year if those plans go ahead.

Spain

Many Dutch people love an ‘old-fashioned’ beach holiday in España. And we don't just stay on the mainland, as Mallorca and Tenerife are number one and three in terms of popular regions, with Andalusia in second place. That is the region in the far south of Spain, with tourist attractions such as Seville, Malaga and Cordoba. Among the most popular city break destinations are, of course, Barcelona and the capital, Madrid.

Italy

Italy naturally has much more to offer than pizza and pasta. A growing number of Dutch people are aware of this, spending their summer holidays in Sicily, on the Italian Riviera or in Tuscany, with the beautiful city of Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. Incidentally, don't ask Italians where Florence is, because they only know that city by its local name, Firenze.

Greece

Back in the top 5: Greece! Once a very popular holiday destination, the country was consistently kept out of the top five by Turkey in recent years. But nowadays, we're flying en masse to Crete, Zakynthos and Rhodes again. Corfu is very popular with young people.

Car hire for holiday

You might go on holiday in your own car or by plane. But perhaps your own car leaves something to be desired in terms of reliability for a long journey. Or it offers too little space for your travel companions. Have you ever considered hiring a car or van for your holiday?

With a rental car or van, you can go on holiday worry-free, both at home and abroad. At Adrem Autoverhuur Limburg You're sure to find the car that suits you and your holiday. From small or compact cars to mid-size cars or estates, manual or automatic.

Hire a minibus for holiday

Are you travelling with more than five people or do you have a lot of luggage? Rent a minibus then for six or nine people. That is also much more cost-effective than going on holiday with two cars! Ideal for the larger family or when you are going on holiday with two families or grandparents.
