Moving house – what do you need to consider?

Moving house involves much more than just lugging your belongings from A to B. You need to think about all sorts of things, arrange a great deal, and also inform various people and organisations.

With the checklist below, you'll be sure to think of everything.

  • Cancel GWE internet/telephone. Don't forget to cancel or transfer your gas, water, electricity, and also your telephone and internet subscriptions in good time. A move is also the perfect opportunity to switch to a new supplier/provider if needed.
  • Update insurances. There are various insurance policies that relate to your home, such as your buildings insurance and contents insurance. You need to update those policies. In addition, you must of course report a change of address to your health insurer, for example.
  • Inform other persons, companies and bodies. It's only when you move house that you realise just how many people, companies, and institutions you have to deal with. Your bank, health insurer, GP, pharmacy, dentist, your children's school…

TOP TIP! Use the Parcel Force Moving Service and your move will be registered with all the important companies, and all your post will be forwarded to your new address for a set period.

  • Big clean-up. People are real collectors and often find it hard to let go of things, even if they don't need them. Have a big clear-out well before you actually move and throw away, give away, or sell anything you no longer use. Anything you get rid of means you don't have to lug it around with you, and it can also save you money on transport costs.
  • Arrange a moving company or removal transport. We don't expect you to forget this, but it's wise to consider early on whether you'll be moving yourself or leaving the move to a removal company.

When you hire professional movers, it is best to request multiple quotes from different moving companies in good time. If you decide to move yourself, you should start looking for the most suitable moving transport in good time.

For most removals, a van is the ideal mode of transport. The largest vans can accommodate an entire household’s belongings, and even if you had to make two trips, it would be considerably more economical than hiring a lorry. Furthermore, you need a lorry licence (a large vehicle driving licence) for the latter, whereas you can drive a van with a standard car driving licence.

At Adrem Car rental Limburg You have a choice of various sizes of vans, suitable for small and large removals, and available to hire individually for an hour to one or more days.
