It’s still a problem when buying a used car. Does the mileage on the odometer match the actual kilometres driven? In 1 in 50 Dutch cars, this is not the case and the odometer has been tampered with.
Incidentally, tampering with a car's odometer has only been prohibited since 2014, when the RDW took over the task of recording mileage. Prior to that, adjusting the odometer was perfectly legal in itself, as long as you didn't use it to your advantage when selling the car.
Since 1991, mileage readings in the Netherlands have been recorded in the National Car Pass (NAP). Most cars on Dutch roads now have a reliable NAP registration, especially due to the increase in the number of (mandatory) registration moments.
In Belgium too, there is mandatory mileage registration, with more compulsory registration moments than in the Netherlands. From November this year, the RDW will have access to this Belgian system, which reduces the chance of odometer tampering with imported cars from this country. So you can buy a car that has been registered in Belgium with more peace of mind than before.
With a Car hire in Sittard in an environment at Adrem, you don't have to worry about odometer fraud.
