Police Porsche back on the motorway?

Are you over 25? Then you might still remember them: the police Porsches that used to patrol Dutch motorways. Or perhaps made them ‘safer’. Because in 1962, that was the idea behind introducing the Porsche – then the 356, later the 911 – as a police car. Until that moment, the police were essentially lagging behind on the motorway. The last Porsche used by the police was a 911 (964) Carrera 2. Partly because of the high price tag, politicians decided that the ‘extravagant’ police Porsche had to be removed from the motorway. This happened in 1996.

The ANWB is now championing the return of the police Porsche to the motorway, to more strictly enforce traffic offences and project more authority.

What do you think? Should the police start driving Porsches on the motorway again? Or do you have another suggestion?
