Rental tip: watch out for second driver surcharges!

You are going to rent a car. Depending on the company you rent from, various surcharges may apply. One of these is a potential surcharge for a second driver. A surcharge which, incidentally, we not To have.

Second driver

Perhaps you intend to share your rental car with someone else during the rental period. Or perhaps you simply want a fellow passenger to be able to take over the steering wheel if necessary. For such Additional drivers (drivers other than the contract holder) some car rental companies charge a surcharge. This can be a daily supplement or a fixed fee for the entire rental period.

The conditions vary by car hire company. Some companies do not charge any fees for a spouse or partner, while others charge a fee for all additional drivers, regardless of their relationship.

Extra drivers conceal

Perhaps, as a renter, you think you can outsmart the rental company and avoid this surcharge by failing to disclose any other drivers. Nice try, but it could cost you dearly. If someone not known to the rental company causes an accident, the damage may not be covered by insurance. And that risk is certainly not worth taking.

No surcharge, but please let us know

We do not have such a surcharge. The insurance amount remains the same, even with an additional driver. So if you rent a car from us, you can safely let someone else drive ‘your’ rental car without it costing you a penny extra. Of course, that person must possess a valid driving licence and must be known to us.

We are therefore asking you for a copy of your driving licence All Additional drivers. Only persons of whom we have a copy of their driving licence are covered by the hire car’s insurance.

Finally

Before you rent a car, it's therefore important to do your homework. Does the car rental company charge a supplement for additional drivers or not? And how high is that supplement?

Even though we don't have such a surcharge, it's still important for the insurance to consider who will be driving the rental car. Ultimately, the insurance has to pay out in the event of damage, so they want to know who they are actually insuring. This way, you won't be faced with (unpleasant) surprises afterwards. 1. Good afternoon, I have a question.
To hire a car from 8 to 16 December from Eindhoven Airport with an additional driver, I would like to ask if you have availability and what the conditions and costs would be.
