You get the same feeling when you haven't properly prepared for your move. You've neatly packed all your belongings. The boxes are labelled with where they need to go. Oh yes, you still need to book a moving truck. You call the rental company, and guess what? There are no more trucks available.
Which bus do you need to book?
Keep two things in mind: how much stuff you have and how often you want to drive back and forth.

If you're moving the contents of your house on Wilhelminasingel, I would the largest van reserve. It also has a tail lift for lifting your heavy items in and out of the van.
Unless you enjoy driving back and forth very often. In that case, you can also book the smallest van for a large house. Then you just move 1 thing at a time. Nice and organised.
When should you book?
Above all, don't be too late. Then there'll be no more buses. Or only a bus you don't want at all. The last Saturday of the month is the busiest moving day. Everyone wants to move then. Other Saturdays are also busy.
A good rule of thumb is to book a van for a Saturday two weeks before your move. If you're moving on a weekday or a Sunday, a few days beforehand is enough.
How do you make a reservation?
I'll just give them a ring. Then you'll know straight away if the bus you want is also available.

A bus that's too big, isn't that a problem?
Oh no, you can just chuck all your bits and bobs in there without a second thought.
A bus that's too big is more expensive than a bus that's the right size for you. And also more difficult to park. Especially if your new student room is in the city centre.
I do everything last minute, and prefer to see what's still available.
Of course, you can do that, I do too. Then you just move on a different day. Or from a different branch. Or you get a bus that's far too big or far too small.
