Kneecap slogan

Telephone.

On my day off.

On my day off, something terrible has to happen for a colleague to call me.

Then at least one of the branches must be on fire.

Fortunately, that is not the case.

My colleague from Heerlen is calling.

The glass that is normally in the front door is in pieces on the floor.

A burglary.

The idiots have made a mess of it.

Not only has the front door lost its glass, the interior is also a mess.

Perhaps the burglars wanted to fry an egg, but couldn't find a frying pan. In any case, the entire contents of the kitchen are scattered across the floor.

Fortunately, I had a brand-new alarm system installed two months ago. With cameras.

It cost a few thousand euros, but it was a good security company. That's at least what they say about themselves: they are a leading service provider.

It's odd the alarm didn't go off.

So the service provider isn't that leading: I think an alarm should indicate sounds. Unless you have a silent alarm, but I didn't order that.

After the police had been to take the statement, I decided to call the leading service provider and ask why their idiotically expensive alarm system hadn't made a sound.

They would send a mechanic out.

The fitter came by and found out that two of the sensors weren't working.

How strange, the system was only 2 months old?

No, these were two old sensors they hadn't replaced two months ago. He would do that now though.

Great! But that's no use to me now – the burglary has already happened and the alarm didn't work.

You can probably guess: the leading service provider was madly keen to pocket a few thousand pounds 2 months ago, but naturally wasn't responsible for a burglary where the alarm didn't go off.

I already found the slogan ’leading service provider’ strange and meaningless.

I advised the company for free to change their slogan to ‘whisper-quiet pointless alarm systems’, or to: ‘We make your world more unsafe’.

This morning I checked their website again, but they are still leading the way. And service-oriented. Or so they say. So they still haven't listened to me.

I did read something about socially irresponsible behaviour. That's quite right, though.

I'm growing to dislike companies that don't do what they say they'll do.

Or to invent a meaningless slogan that makes no sense.
