You've decided to move yourself. A good plan, because moving yourself is a lot cheaper than calling in the help of a professional moving company. But what do you need, besides a delivery van of course, to move yourself?
Moving boxes
A family with two children will quickly need 30-40 moving boxes. Opt for professional moving boxes with a high load capacity. That doesn't mean you should load the box to its maximum, as you still need to be able to lift the box.
You have moving boxes in various sizes. Depending on the size, a moving box costs approximately one to two euros each. In addition to moving boxes, you will probably also need packing paper and foam or bubble wrap to protect your belongings, tape to seal the boxes, and stickers to label them.
Moving blankets
Furniture naturally doesn't fit into moving boxes. To protect it during transportation, you need special (woven and stitched) storage or moving blankets. For a large move, you'll quickly need twenty moving blankets.
Dolly
Many hands make light work. So does a sack truck. If you have a lot of heavy items to move, a sack truck (also known as a trolley) is not a superfluous luxury. Ideal for moving your fridge/freezer, washing machine, and tumble dryer. Do you live in a flat without a lift? Then consider a stair-climbing sack truck with a 3-wheel set.
Furniture dolly
A furniture dolly, also known as a hand truck, is ideal for moving heavy furniture or crates.
Strap assemblies
To prevent items from sliding or tipping over in the van's cargo area, we strongly recommend securing them with tension straps.
Toolbox
Also take a tool kit with you, as Allen keys, spanners and screwdrivers are always needed during a move, for dismantling or assembling furniture for example. Don't forget your work gloves either. Also check out our checklist regarding the preparing for a move, so that the move goes smoothly.
